I’ll Be Honest With You
“I’ll be honest with you.”
I understand this phrase is mostly used as a figure of speech, “I’ll be honest with you.”, usually means I am going to be candid, frank, to the point, pull no punches, or direct with you, as opposed to “I was just bullshitting you before, now I’m being honest.” or “I was candy-coating the situation, now I’m being brutally honest.”
When I hear this, I do not assume people are not honest when they do not qualify their statement with “I’ll be honest with you.”, though, sometimes I wonder.
What other phrases do we use that have little meaning?

Great entry.
Not quite on the same level as, “I’ll be honest with you” but one that I always find myself nixing when writing is, “Personally.” It seems redundant, no?
“Personally, I…” Well, yeah. If you’re talking about what you think, like, or feel it IS personal.
Neat blog. Personally (hee hee) I think you may receive more comments if an e-mail address was not required to post comments. I’m sure you have your reasons for requiring them though.
Gabby,
Thank you for your comments. I am considering your suggestion as I would love to have more comments, moreover, I really don’t need anyones email address.
How about “In my opinion”? Yeah, we know it’s your opinion. Language is funny.
Gabby, you have changed BloggingThat. You’re like a blogging consultant.
